Tracking the goods inward
Achieving end-to-end supply chain visibility is key for many major retailers: a new packaged application from Sterling Commerce claims to meet this objective for the inbound supply chain at least.  The pieces of the jigsaw needed to achieve supply chain visibility are already in place for many retailers:  merchandisers and buyers have information about open-to-buy and outstanding purchase orders; distribution centres have advanced shipping notices (ASN) from suppliers; producers are linked by EDI and so on.
